Who is Song Tae Jo Gwang-yoon? (1)

King Taejo of Buksong is named Jo Gwang-yoon (趙27: 927-976). Earlier, he served as the chief Buddhist monk of Huju, one of the highest military officers in Huju, the longest general of the Imperial Guard, and was established as an emperor during the Jingyo Byeongbyeon and became the founder of the Song Dynasty. He reigned for 17 years and died of illness at the age of 50. Later generations suspect that he was killed by his younger brother Cho Kwang-ui. It was buried in Yeongchangneung Royal Tomb (southwest of Gonghyeon, Hanam Province). Jo Gwang-yoon's hometown is Takju (now Takhyeon, Hanam Province), and he moved to Nakyang when his father Cho Hong-eun was born. He was born in Hyupmayoung, Nakyang. His father, Cho Hong-eun, was an officer of Hu Dang, Hu Jin, and Hu Han. Cho Kwang-yoon first caught Kwak Wi's eye because he liked martial arts while under the command of Kwak Wi, the captain of generous people. After that, he participated in the re-establishment of Gwakwi as the emperor of the latter and was appointed to the Jeonjegeumgun. During the reign of King Sejong, he also established a brilliant major and was promoted to Jeonjeon prosecutor (the highest general of the Imperial Guard) to take control of the latter's military power, and Songju (now Sanggu-hyeon, Hanam) and opened the capital. After the death of King Sejong, his son Si Jong-hoon succeeded the throne at the young age of seven. Cho Kwang-yoon secretly conspired to usurp the throne with his younger brothers Cho Kwang-ui and his youngest officer Jo Bo. In January 960, Jinju (now Jeong Jong-hyeon, Habuk-seong) and Jeongju (now Jeong-hyeon, Habuk-seong) sent a report that the allied forces of North Korea and the Yo Dynasty moved south and invaded Huju. Without confirming whether it was true, Empress Dowager's vice-cubine, Beom-jil, and Wangbu hurriedly led Cho Kwang-yoon to the north with a large army to defend against the enemy. Gapsinil Cho Kwang-yoon's unit camped at Jingyo Station (now 40-ri northeast of Hanamseong's opening), and the next morning at Jingyo Station, there was a loud roar from all sides. Jo Kwang-yoon, who had just woken up from the alcohol, came out of the bedroom and saw generals led by Jo Kwang-ui and Jo Bo standing in a line in front of the yard with weapons in one hand and shouting at once. "We don't have an owner, so please be a heavenly ruler!" When Cho Kwang-yoon didn't answer anything, the generals bowed in unison and shouted "Mansae" after putting pre-prepared yellow cloth on his body. This event is referred to as Jingyo lesion in history. Accordingly, Cho Kwang-yoon returned to the border with a large army. Instead of the latter, Hantong was killed by Cho Kwang-yoon's subordinates while he was hurriedly preparing to form an army to counter the coup, and the prime minister Beomjil and Wangbu were intimidated and surrendered. On the afternoon of the 5th of the New Year, Cho Kwang-yoon deposed Si Jong-hoon, ascended to the emperor, named the national name Song, Yeonho Keonryong, and named the capital as the opening of Hanamseong Fortress, and in history, it is called Buksong. Cho Kwang-yoon saw the power to do things in the world after the founding of Buksong, and said to Jo Bo, "I can't sleep because all the beds outside are like other people's territory." After that, with the help of Jo Bo, the Song Dynasty first suppressed the rebellion of the remaining forces Lee Gyun and Lee Joong-jin, and then took the policy of "Seonnamhubuk," destroying Nampyeong, Honam, Huchok, South Korea, and Namdang in turn, strengthening the defense of northern Khitan. In order to strengthen centralization, Cho Kwang-yoon took many measures. One evening in the fall of 961, King Song Tae-jo invited Geumwi-gun, General Seoksu-sin, and others to a banquet. Halfway through, King Taejo opened his mouth. "If it had not been for the help of the chiefs, I would not be who I am now. However, as I ascended to the position of Heavenly Father, it was very difficult every day, unlike when I was leisurely in the days of Theft. Now I can't sleep comfortably for almost a day." Seoksu-su and others said, "Your Majesty has become a precious heavenly body now, so what's the concern?" and Song Tae-jo asked, "Who wants to sit here?" Seok-su and others intuitively felt that there was a bone in the words, and said, "Who dares to have a different mind when a thousand people are already decided?" and quickly expressed their intention. King Taejo smiled bitterly and said, "You may not have any other heart, but if your men dress you with yellow cloth one morning, it will not work even if you do not want to be emperor!" After hearing this, Seok-su and others hurriedly knelt down and bowed their heads, wept, and said, "We really foolishly didn't think about it, so please open the way for us, Your Majesty," and King Taejo replied. "A man's life is very short. A man is born in the world, and he can enjoy his wealth and glory comfortably. When I think about it for you, it would be best to give up the right of soldiers, go down to the countryside, buy good rice fields and houses, hand them over to generations, and spend the rest of your life drinking happily every day. I'll get back together with you. This will eliminate doubts between the military gods and ease both the upper and lower bodies, so how good it is!" Seoksu-su and others noticed the meaning of this word, which was accompanied by grace and dignity, and resigned under the pretext of illness and returned the military authority the next day.

This is the historically famous story of Bae Joo-seok Byeong-kwon.

After a while, King Taejo deprived thieves such as Wang Eon-cho of the military power and returned all local administrative and financial rights to the center by the same means. These measures basically ended the phase of local separation that has appeared several times in Chinese history. King Taejo emphasized agricultural production and promoted socioeconomic development by reducing the number of servants while creating irrigation projects. King Taejo was a king who made many achievements, but he emphasized the policy of "stabilizing the inside and preventing external enemies" and valued literature and underestimated martial arts. As a result, since then, North Song has placed importance on the inside and neglected the outside, leading to a phase where it has become weaker day by day by day. He gave a large amount of answers to generals who offered military power and strengthened the concurrent forces of the land, deepening the conflict between classes, which led to the explosion of the peasant uprising shortly after the founding of the country. Although King Taejo was a general, he loved reading and never put books in his hands. When he went to Pyeongho-ri (now Hoeha basin) following King Sejong's descendant, someone told King Sejong that he loaded his belongings on several carts, most of which were treasures. King Sejong sent a person to investigate the facts, and it is said that the cart was filled with only thousands of books. So King Sejong asked him, "You're a general, what a book!" and he replied, "I don't have a good plan to dedicate to your Majesty, so I have no choice but to read a lot of books to broaden my knowledge and cultivate wisdom."
