When we watch soccer on the air, the commentator always says when the Spanish team comes out. I've heard the "Invincible Fleet Spanish Team" so often that I'm just going to do it, but the "Invincible Fleet" is not just a word, it's a real thing in history. Armada Invincible, the Great Fleet of Espanya by Philip II. As a result of the discovery of the Americas, Spain reached its heyday with Carlos I and Felipe II, but in the second half of Felipe II, Britain emerged from overseas trade, and domestic politics and economy declined. The king built a fleet of 127 battleships, 8,000 sailors, 19,000 troops, and 2,000 artillery to travel to England, and appointed the Duke of Medina Sidonia as commander. Departing from Lisbon, Portugal on 28 May 1588, the Great Fleet was to join the 18,000 Dutch Army and land on the British mainland. Britain's Queen Elizabeth, with Lord Howard in command, deployed masters such as Hawkins and Drake to fight with 80 battleships and 8,000 troops. The British fleet was outnumbered, but it was mobile and its crew was well trained. The invincible fleet attempted to capture the British fleet off Plymouth, but failed, and was hit by a fire attack by the British off Calais on 7 August, and was decisively struck at the Battle of Graveline, leaving only 54 ships home. The defeat of the Invincible Fleet led to the surrender of Spanish maritime trade rights to Britain and the independence of the Netherlands. But history tells us that the Invincible Fleet suffered a disastrous defeat by the British. It would be similar to our defeat of Spain in football in the future.
