The sword in Western history

 Suppose that the history of Western swords begins with Gladius, which was used by soldiers in ancient Rome. (Before that, we won't treat them as relics like bronze swords in the Bronze Age.) Also, the history of swords is inseparable from the developing armor, so armor will come up. It was short and hard, so it was useful for use in crowded battlefields, so Roman soldiers did not use it. Then, since the 8th century AD, when the Middle Ages began, iron plate armor (plate gold armor), which was used in ancient times, has developed into chain armor (chain mail), and black-bladed swords, including long-sod (long sword), which was mainly for cutting. As a result, in order to prevent the stabbing type of sword, the gap between chain armor decreases, or you start wearing armor made of one iron plate, such as a full plate armour.Of course, accordingly, kendo changes again, and the black, which has become thinner, changes into a broad (two to three centimeters wide) with thick blades again. Unlike its name, Broadsode was not that wide, but it was named because it had a wide blade compared to the thin swords at the time. However, the armor became thick again to prevent the blade, which eventually led to the birth of a bastardsword and a two-handedsword in the 15th century. Bastard Sword is a sword with a medium length between two-handed Sword and long-sword, and can be used with both hands due to its long sword grip, so it was called a variant sword and a half-hand sword, and two-handed Sword was virtually a club with enormous length and thickness. As the armor became so thick, the dagger was rarely used. And in the 18th century, muskets (Hwaseungchong) appeared, which led to the fall of swords and armor. In the Renaissance, Raypeer and Esterk (which had been used before, but not often) began to develop, but they were not main weapons. This is because cannons and guns were already widespread in that era. (There are many people who confuse Raypeer with fencing, but Raypeer is not blunt like a fencing sword, but there were days when it was this thin. So not only was it possible to stab, but it was also possible to cut. :) But Estherk and Raypere weren't only foamy weapons, so the stabbing of Raypere or Estherk using iron, which developed and hardened, was powerful enough to hurt their opponents through Plate Armor's thick iron plates. However, in any case, the emergence of gunpowder weapons made swords and armor useless, and eventually, the weapon named the sword was gradually forgotten.
