Tsushima Island(Daemado Island)

Daemado Island is originally Korean land belonging to Gyerim, Gyeongsang-do. This is an obvious fact recorded in the document. However, because the land is very narrow and in the middle of the sea, the people did not live in because the king was uncomfortable. However, Japanese people who had nowhere to be kicked out of their country flocked in and became their den." This is the record of the Annals of King Sejong. In addition, it is written in Dongguk Yeoji Seungram, a geography book published by the Joseon Dynasty in the 16th century, saying, "Daemado Island belonged to our Gyerim in the past, but it is not known when it became a den for the Japanese." Almost all maps published during the Joseon Dynasty, including Kim Jeong-ho's Daedongyeojido, included Tsushima Island in Korea's territory. The ritual that Tsushima Island is a state of Sokju has been around since Goryeo Dynasty. This is supported by the fact that Daemadoju was given government posts called Gudanggwan and Manho in the middle of Goryeo. The full-fledged rapid coin painting work was carried out during the reign of King Sejong of the Joseon Dynasty. In 1419, General Lee Jong-moo conquered Tsushima Island with 17,000 troops on 227 warships. In 1436, when the food situation of Tsushima Island became difficult, Sow Sadamori, the provincial governor, appealed to incorporate Tsushima Island into a town in Joseon. Accordingly, Joseon subjugated Tsushima Island to Gyeongsang-do and sealed its escape with water. Therefore, Shin Yu-han's Hae Yu-rok, who visited Japan in the early 18th century along with the Joseon Tongsinsa, proudly recorded as follows. "This island is nothing more than a town in Joseon. As Taesu received a stamp from the Joseon royal family, ate the rust of the royal court, and was ordered to do large and small things, there is a loyalty of prosperity to Korea." In the late 19th century, Japan's Meiji government incorporated Tsushima Island into Japan. If you look at the envelope posted by Tsushima in 1868 to the Meiji government, you can see more clearly that Tsushima was a subordinate country to Joseon. "I've been humiliated for hundreds of years with the example of prosperity in Joseon, so resentment is indescribable."Instead of books cast by Joseon from the current Seogye, using a new stamp created by the Japanese government…" In this regard, Professor Haubong of Chonbuk National University said, "Like the Ryukyu Kingdom of Okinawa, which offered tribute to both Japan and Cheong, Tsushima Island in the late Joseon Dynasty can be seen as having a 'Yangsok relationship' subjugated to both Joseon and Japan." "Bachelor" is Korean? "No, is "Ge" Korean?" I was surprised when I told a taxi driver in Tsushima, who abbreviates "Tsutong" (Tsushima bachelor) and "Satchong" (Saporo bachelor), that "Bachelor" is Korean. Korean paper scissors are also called "gee" in Tsushima. You can't hear this in other parts of Japan. There are still more than 300 Korean words commonly used only in Tsushima.》 The survival and rise of Tsushima Island, where 92% of the island's total is barren mountainous terrain and less than 3% of farmland, have historically been greatly influenced by exchanges with the Korean Peninsula. "There are times when the relationship between the Korean Peninsula and Tsushima Island was bright and dark," said Nagatome Hisa, chairman of the Tsushima Local Research Association. He cited the 500th year of the 3rd to 2nd centuries B.C. and the early Joseon Dynasty as good times. Even in Japanese colonial era, Tsushima Island flourished to the extent that its population reached 90,000. However, since the end of World War II, as exchanges with Korea have been cut off, the population has decreased year by year, and now it is only 40,000. More than 20,000 Koreans lived in Japanese colonial era, but now only 60. Since the launch of regular passenger ships between Busan and Daemado in 1999, the number of Korean tourists has increased rapidly. Last year, 15,300 Koreans visited Tsushima Island. If the ferry departing from Busan Port does not float due to the high wave height, major hotels and restaurants in Tsushima Island may be empty.

On the other hand, if the weather is clear, Daemado Island is also seen in neighboring Busan. And there, the spread of mobile phones by Korean telecommunications companies is also reached.
